As the school year ramps up for so many of us, I had to share my favorite lunchbox Bento boxes! I have to say that I definitely haven’t tried them ALL – but I DID do a fair amount of research on Amazon reviews. And I am totally thrilled with these lunchbox bento boxes!
My favorite lunchbox Bento Boxes
These are the Goodbyn Hero Bento Boxes. We have one for each member of our family, and we ordered them in different colors so it’s easy to keep track of whose lunch is whose (because sissy won’t eat what brother eats, daddy gets twice as much protein as I do, etc).
I like these because they are cute. Duh.
I like these because they are sealed! Many other bento boxes (including stainless steel options) aren’t water-tight between containers. I like my bento items to stay in their bento compartments, so leakage is a big NO NO in my book.
I like these because they come with two tiny sauce boxes, so I can send my little ones to school with a small side of mustard, hot sauce or whatever they require.
They are BPA-free plastic. I wish that they were silicon or stainless steel, but it is what it is! I don’t put anything hot in them, since we typically don’t heat up our lunches.
They fit inside most standard lunch boxes. I can slide these into my kids’ fabric boxes, with a cooler pack, utensils and a napkin. It zips up right around it.
You can also use them without a fabric lunchbox, because they have their own handle. So if you’re carrying non-perishable that don’t require refrigeration, take it on its own!
I especially love these bento boxes for when I’m trying to prepare lots of lunches/meals ahead of time. They make it really easy to store my healthy food and get organized for the week!! I love gnocchi and salmon. Together, they just about send me into nirvana. I don’t eat a ton of pasta these days – we’re not gluten free, but we are a LOW gluten family that tends to lean toward whole, unpackaged foods with moderate cheats — so when I do eat it I insist that it’s the good stuff. After an epic trip to Italy a few years ago (plus my hubby’s family is super Italian), we have pretty high standards.
Pasta isn’t inherently bad, if it’s not loaded with chemicals and preservatives. The biggest issue is striking the right portion size and balancing it with your protein and veggies. That’s why this recipe is mostly protein and veggies with a little pasta on the side. Traditionally, most people would have a ton of pasta with very little of the “other stuff.”
This recipe is super, super, super easy. I have kids. I don’t have time for fancy. The gnocchi is authentic Italian, but it’s the store-bought kind that you can cook in 2 minutes. It’s not a one-pan meal, but it’s still pretty easy to clean up after!
Gnocchi and Salmon
- 1.5 lbs salmon filet (in one piece)
- Juice of ½ lemon
- 1 + lbs broccoli, chopped.
- 2 cups spinach
- 16 oz reall Italian gnocchi
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter, preferably grass fed
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
- Place whole salmon filet on a greased baking pan. Douse with lemon juice.
- Place broccoli on a greased baking sheet. Spray with spray avocado oil.
- Put the broccoli in the oven and roast for 15 to 20 minutes (take it out before it loses too much green color).
- After about 5 minutes, put the salmon in the oven with the broccoli. Let it roast for 12 to 15 minutes.
- While the broccoli and salmon cook, bring a pot of water to boil for the gnocchi. Cook according to the manufacturer's instructions. Drain.
- In the same pan you used for the gnocchi, melted butter and add spinach. Allow the spinach to sauté until wilted.
- Mix gnocchi back into the pan with the spinach and the butter.
- Arrange all the items on a platter, with the salmon in the center and the gnocchi and vegetable son the outside.
So I really suck at sharing before and after photos from my clients, but I really should because EVERYONE makes amazing progress and why should I hide all this amazing body transformation from you?? This is the type of stuff that motivates ME, so it must motivate you too… so, without any further delay, let me introduce to you: Inga.
I was rolling through my progress photos of clients from LAST YEAR and was caught by her progress. Sometimes body transformations are more subtle and sometimes they’re BAM in your face. This is a BAM in your face, one.
You see, this happened in just under 2 months… and this was sticking to her “eating plan” just about 80% of the time, with plenty of room for FUN EATING and REAL LIFE. Her plan was what we call SUSTAINABLE.
Look at how flat her stomach is in the after photos, and how much DEFINITION her arms have!! I haven’t altered these photos in any way – no funny lighting, no filters. These are legit bathroom mirror pictures. She looks amazing!!
Inga was already pretty athletic, but she had a lot of little eating habits that were keeping her from looking and feeling the way she wanted to. We used a slow and gentle system of resetting her eating habits. As a mom of three, going all-in and changing EVERYTHING at once (like with a meal plan) was NOT the way to go. She was also pretty clear that certain things needed to stay (hello, wine)… but she was able to incorporate all of that stuff into her nutrition strategy in a way that didn’t impede her results!
She also wasn’t doing enough resistance training (weight lifting), which is key for maintaining muscle when you’re trying to lose fat. Without resistance training, you end up looking skinny instead of strong and chiseled!
